English Idioms from A-Z

Throw Elbows

The idiom "throw elbows" means to use one's elbows aggressively or forcefully to push through a crowd or to make a path for oneself. It is often used in situations where there is a lot of congestion or a limited amount of space, and one needs to assert themselves to get through.

For example, if you are at a crowded concert and need to make your way to the front of the stage, you might "throw elbows" to push through the crowd and get to your desired spot. Similarly, if you are on a crowded subway train and need to get off at your stop, you might "throw elbows" to make your way to the door.

However, it is important to note that "throwing elbows" can be seen as rude or aggressive behavior, and it is generally not recommended to use this tactic unless absolutely necessary. It is always better to be polite and respectful of others, even in crowded situations.
