English Idioms from A-Z

Preaching To The Choir

The idiom "preaching to the choir" means trying to convince someone who already agrees with you. It's like giving a speech to a group of people who already share your beliefs, so there's no need to persuade them.

For example, if you're talking to a group of vegetarians about the benefits of a plant-based diet, you're preaching to the choir because they already believe in the same thing. They don't need to be convinced.

You can use this idiom when you feel like you're wasting your time trying to persuade someone who already agrees with you. It's like trying to teach someone something they already know.

So, if you're in a discussion and you feel like the other person is not listening to you, you can say "I feel like I'm preaching to the choir here" to express that you think they already agree with you.
